eBus – Geo Location Tracking System for Bus

Intelligent transportation systems include advanced traveler information systems, with travel time information being a major component. Transit agencies have adopted prediction models to track vehicles and predict travel time in real-time. Improving the precision and reliability of these models is crucial to attract more ridership, reduce passengers’ waiting times and anxieties at bus stops, and increase their satisfaction. This can also promote the development of city public transportation. This paper presents an enhanced approach to predict the public bus arrival time based on location. After systematically analyzing the components of bus arrival time, the main input variables of the prediction model are chosen as the bus arrival time and dwell time at previous stops. The algorithm of data interpolation and processing is designed to obtain the real-time of bus arrival as input variables of the prediction models. eBus – Geo Location Tracking System for Bus Next, the statistical model is obtained by filtering the location, bus route, and date of each bus. Finally, a hybrid prediction model is proposed to predict the bus arrival time. The eBus-Geo Location Tracking System for Bus is used to validate the improved model and the results show that it outperforms the historical data-based model in terms of prediction accuracy.
